Quirky Glimpses of NYC Await!
A Tourist in My Own City
Last year, I spent a total of two months in Paris over the course of three work trips. There wasn’t much downtime, and I got sick twice while I was there.
One day, while wandering with no plan, I slipped into a very woe-is-me moment.
Sure, I was lucky to be in Paris for work, but I didn’t have enough time for the kind of day I was currently having — walking into cafés just for the hell of it, reading with a glass of wine, vintage shopping, people-watching, and admiring every weird little storefront and stranger on the sidewalk.
Sigh. When will I ever get to do this again?
Then it hit me:
“Hey, idiot. You live in New York City. People from Paris vacation there to do exactly what you’re doing right now.
Do you treat your own city like a place worth exploring? Why not?”
I made a promise to myself:
Whenever I can, I’ll wander around NYC like a tourist—taking photos of colorful, quirky graffiti, offbeat people, hidden gems, and strange little moments.
I’ve been doing just that — and I’m going to start sharing those photos with you.
If you’ve never been to NYC, I hope these images show you sides of the city you wouldn’t expect.
